Did You Know?

The Gemsbok is a large antelope native to the arid regions of Southern Africa.

Both male and female Gemsbok have long, straight, spear-like horns that can reach up to 47 inches in length.

They are incredibly well-adapted to desert environments, able to go for long periods without drinking water by obtaining moisture from the plants they eat.

Gemsbok can raise their body temperature to avoid overheating in the hot sun, allowing heat to escape through their skin.

They are known for their striking black and white facial markings and a distinctive black stripe running along their flanks.

When threatened, Gemsbok can be quite formidable, using their sharp horns to defend themselves against predators like lions.

They often dig for roots and tubers to supplement their diet, especially during dry seasons.
