Reptilia

Information on Reptilia

Reptiles are a class of ectothermic vertebrates that are primarily terrestrial, although some species have adapted to aquatic life. They are characterized by their scaly, waterproof skin, which helps prevent dehydration in dry environments. Unlike amphibians, reptiles lay amniotic eggs with a protective shell, allowing them to reproduce on land without needing to return to water. They breathe with lungs throughout their entire life. Their limbs are typically located on the sides of their bodies, giving them a sprawling gait.

This class includes a wide variety of animals such as snakes, lizards, turtles, crocodiles, and alligators. While many people think of reptiles as cold-blooded, the term ectothermic is more accurate, as their body temperature is regulated by external sources like the sun. They are found in diverse habitats around the world, from deserts to tropical rainforests.
