Classifcation Family
Animal Families
An animal classification family is a taxonomic rank used in the hierarchical system of classifying organisms.
In the biological classification system, the hierarchy goes from broad to specific:
Domain → Kingdom → Phylum → Class → Order → Family → Genus → Species
A family groups together related genera (plural of genus) that share common characteristics and evolutionary traits. Families are typically named using the suffix '-idae' for animals (e.g., Felidae for the cat family, Canidae for the dog family) and '-aceae' for plants (e.g., Rosaceae for the rose family).
