What makes Anatidae unique is their specialized bill structure, typically flattened and broad, with lamellae (filter-like ridges) that enable them to efficiently filter food from water. They are also characterized by their webbed feet, perfectly adapted for swimming and diving. Members of this family are generally monogamous for at least one breeding season, and many species undertake impressive annual migrations.
